March 22 2009, was good old Mothers day. As we spoilt our mums (some of us anyway) and ensured they felt special beyond breakfast and the tulips bought in a rush in the morning, the world was also celebrating (some of us anyway) World Water Day.
For me, it was a day of appreciating the running tap water i have constant and consistant access too, the ability to financially buy water if that runs dry and the water man decides to block the pipes, and also the accessibility of clean, fresh, drinkable water. While i fortunately and very appreciatively have ALL that, there are children in Zimbabwe for example who spend days dehydrated under the sun, or women who travel miles to get enough to last them the day and then make that journey all over again the next day and so on so forth and even then the water they get may need several sessions of boiling before it is safe to consume. While they do that, i get up and take less than a minute from the couch to the kitchen sink to get my dose of hydration.

Maybe next year we can do something collectively to provide water where it is desperately needed and positivily enhance a communities way of life.
