Top 10 Natural Healers

Many plants, fruits and vegetables have healing properties that have been used to cure and prevent disease for thousands of years. From the acidic lemon to the common nettle, these natural remedies have stood the test of time.

1. Dandelion

Often viewed as a common weed, the dandelion has many uses. Its roots contain a substance used as a laxative, while the leaves make healthy salad greens and pot-herbs.

2. Garlic
A relative of the onion, the medicinal qualities of garlic have been recognized since ancient times. A natural antibiotic, garlic can counter infection, relax muscular spasms, and is thought to reduce cholesterol and high blood pressure.

3. Ginger
The ancient Greeks were the first to import ginger into Europe from South-East Asia. Its curative powers aid digestion, improve circulation, and relieve headaches.

4. Lemon
Originally from the Middle East, lemons have been cultivated since medieval times. Their high vitamin C content relieves the symptoms of colds and flu.

5. Saint-John's-Wort
In the Middle Ages Saint-John's-wort (leaves and flower) was thought to have the power to ward off evil spirits and melancholia. Today, many people use it as a treatment for mild depression.

6. Nettle
Nettle leaves have been used since the Bronze Age for their recuperative and astringent powers, which help combat anaemia and stop bleeding. A nettle leaf poultice can improve eczema.

7. Orange
Rich in vitamin and minerals, particularly vitamin C, oranges were first cultivated by the Chinese more than 4,000 years ago. Orange rind contains three essential oils.

8. Celery
An effective diuretic, the seeds of the celery plant have excellent cleansing properties and can aid in the treatment of arthritis.

9. Tea Tree
When extracted, the essential oils of the Australian tea tree plant can be used as an antiseptic on insect bites, burns, cuts, and skin infections.

10. Hawthorn
Native to Europe, Africa, and Asia, hawthorn has been a popular therapeutic plant for thousands of years. It is particularly good for the heart as it can help increase blood flow; it also acts as an antioxidant.

Or you can keep it simple:

1) Drink tons of water
2) three types of fruit per day
3) regular exercise: running/dancing/yoga/gym
