I don't know a huge deal on the signs but I know the basics and many of them, we have been discussing here on the forum like .... the food shortages in the third world countries, the devastating natural disasters that have hit recently …..

I would like to open this topic up for debate and discuss and also learn more about the Qayyamat and the relevance that it has to the world that we are living in now

Know no more than others on this forum, but am interested

Below is a selection of pre-requisites, its easy to argue that these currently prevail, but the issue is, haven’t these conditions always to an extent existed? and if so can it not be argued that qayyamat signs have always been there, and hence we have always been approaching the end of the world? Guess maybe it depends on perspective, from personal observations the more religious of us are maybe more likely to believe that the end is imminent, the more I think about this the more circuitous it becomes…. Remember when I was a kid at the mosque, they taught us to not question and just accept, maybe that’s easier……

*When orators and lecturers lie openly.
*When people dispute over petty issues.
*When women with children come displeased on account of them bearing offspring, and barren women remain happy on account of having no responsibility of offspring.
* When oppression, jealousy, and greed become the order of the day.
* When people blatantly follow their passions and whims.
* When lies prevail over the truth.
* When violence, bloodshed and anarchy become common.
* People will indulge in homosexuality.
* There will be an abundance of illegitimate children.
* There will be an abundance of critics, tale-carriers, back- biters and taunters in society.
Gangsters and evil people will prevail.
* Various wines will be consumed excessively.

this is just my opinion, but I think it would be more beneficial for us to, rather than looking for signs of the last day, if we lived like it was our last day and devoted our actions and thoughts to the omnipresent

Exactly!

I just hate those people who use "end of days" as a fear mongering tactic to scare people into doing what they want. Yes, we are all going to die. Yes the world is going to end at some point. There is no need to worry about that, it will happen. You won't be able to do anything about it. Just live life properly.

There are minor signs, such as the vague ones regarding increased lying and wars.

But then there are major signs which are very explicit and absolute, and indicate an almost imminent arrival of Qayamat; such as the Dajjal or the Mahdi, etc.

A worthy point.
What we must remember is that there were signs of the day of Qayamat during the time of the Prophet, all those years ago. I believe his death is also a sign??? Or so I’ve read somewhere...

People back then thought that the last days were around the corner and there was a possibility that it may be during their lifetime, very much like some people think that it may be so now, in our lifetime.

A point to note: a few years back I heard of a group of Muslims who were relating to a hadith where there was to be 2 eclipses during the month of Ramzan, which would precede the coming of Imam Mehdi. Subsequently the hadiths were revealed to be weak in Sanad/Isnaad, and discredited. But it still didn't stop some people selling up to move to Mecca to await the Mehdi's arrival!!!

These things can never be second guessed or estimated in any way what so ever. The important thing here I guess is what Mabrur has said... live everyday as though it were your last. The Lord controls time, and he can make a day pass by in the space of an hour or drag it out over a millennia. Either way, there's no point worrying about it... when it happens, it will happen.

the saying wait till you come to the bridge before you can pass it comes to mind, the important factor is being prepared for the bridge when you do eventually reach it
