In Malaysia, if a Muslim couple wish to get married, they are "required to attend a pre-nuptial course as required by the respective State Islamic Religious Department". The short course is basically an entire explanation and study into the rights and responsibilities that a husband/wife have over each other as part of the Islamic marriage contract. I think it's a great idea as it carefully outlines everything including the Islamic marriage process, divorce conditions, as well as fundamental islamic expectations of married life. Only then, can the Muslim couple get married.

Perhaps we should introduce a similar process in the UK Muslim community? or in other Muslim countries too, such as Bangladesh and Pakistan?
Do you think it would be well received?
Would it help to counter some of the problems associated with marriage, or perhaps help to reduce the likelihood of divorce?

How is it effective? I mean, pre nup course or not, isnt marriage the bond of two souls and a risk in many aspects which would inevitably mean both would have to compromise, share, understand and accept teh many good and bad times ahead. Are those without such courses behind them less equipped? I can see the positives of such courses, but i dont think it should be an obligation or imposed on a state or anyone in fact - for me, it just takes the romance out of such beginings, lol

Although there is a romantic aspect to marriage. It is still a contract between two people. So, like any contract it is best for the people involved to understand it before they agree to it.
