Fellow restless beings,
Several months back I came along to my first Restless Being event, having already heard about what great things were being done in Bangladesh.
This prompted memories of the years when I was younger from Dhaka, the good and the bad; of which I spoke after performance a few lines.
I had written them on the tube, going to the event that evening. I simply wrote down on a notepad what is true and expressing the philosophy which Restless Beings champions.
It was unrehearsed during the open mic section; and the transcript of the notepad size piece of paper is what follows.
Let the rain come down,
and make those small kids smile.
Let Eid come now,
To get them feed, somehow.
We frown with rain and pay £20 for a meal today.
When for that much we would feast like kings,
I consider it our ultimate sin.
Because we live in luxury while our fellow human beings eat out of second hand tins…
From the ‘ring-ring’ of our mobile phones,
To the ‘bling-bling’ on our hands and clothes.
Do we ever imagine what it would be like to switch roles?
No…
Let our minds wander,
And our hearts ponder,
How simple our existence could be,
If we could sleep and eat for free.
I don’t know about you,
But I WILL, and hope you do too.
What it means to be a kid in those streets,
I hope you see and believe in the NEED.
To make them smile just like when its Eid.
Please feel free to comment and leave feedback if you’d like.
Keep being restless.
