Hi my name is Bishan, I am one of Tariq's close friends and he encouraged me to join the "restlessbeings" group. I have only had time to briefly look at the website but i like the intention, the vibe and what i see being done here. Well done guys and gals - i'm happy to be part of the community.
I myself have lived a very fortunate life, having grown up comfortably in UK, Saudia Arabia, New Zealand (having lived in the latter for my secondary schooling and university)
Two and a half years ago at age 30 I decided to go on a journey of personal discovery and went back to Sri Lanka the country of my origin to re-discover my roots, so to speak. I started off wanting to take a year out of my somewhat pressured career path (emergency medicine) as I was a little sick of just following the rat race, and do community work in Sri Lanka. I started doing this but soon moved into a pathway of medical research because a good opportunity to do some meaningful work (help reduce suicide deaths from self poisoning in rural communities) came my way. In addition to the research it has been a very challenging but at the same time rewarding journey of learning about the different cultures that exist in Sri Lanka, and I am now doing a PhD there (and have been here a total of 2 and half years - and loving it!).
Whilst I am a medical doctor training in emergency medicine, and a researcher, my passions are along the lines of policy change and development, education, peace promotion and exploring the powers of positive thinking! Also I am an anthropologist at heart.
I have a charity project which i am doing on the side (providing hospital equipment to a rural hospital in sri lanka), so i appreciate the work that you guys are doing -it can be hard work to see your dreams to completion, but we'll all get there in the end i believe - or at least hopefully make a difference in the journey.
I look forward to contributing some of my experiences as an eastern and western person currently living in the east - actually i prefer to think of myself as a "global citizen".
take care
Bishan
ps. my website for the charity is

I am still working on amalgamating this project with the international rotary club, so if you are interested in donation or know those who are - please just direct them my way via my email which is also on the website. Thank you
