I used to be a fan until found out that he is a racist. He, for obvious reasons, deny the allegations.

One of his songs "Bengali In Platforms". "Bengali, Bengali / Oh, shelve your Western plans / And understand / That life is hard enough when you belong here"

Another one of his songs “Asian Rut” has the lyrics “what drugs are you on?”

Morrissey stated that "all reggae is vile".

And there are many many more examples. It's a shame, until then I was a fan.

True, his opinions leave a lot to be desired - and he doesn't seem to have changed much, this was apparent from an NME intrview earlier this year can't remember exactly when but I'm sure it can be found. That aside, I still hold him to be one of the greatest British songwriters, with reference to The Smiths, the whole Morrissey/Marr double act. The same in a sense can be said of Rushdie, controversy aside, the way he writes is indeed captivating and he is brilliant at what he does. A great writer.

My kinda gal! Boys Don't cry is an all time fave, missed out seeing them earlier this year (or was it late last year?).

Fugees were cool man, I love Lauryn Hill. Her Miseducation Of... alb was a great one.

'I'm gonna find you and take it slowly...'

Anyone like the Arctic Monkeys? Incubus?

I bumped into Alex Turner twice this in shoreditch, i think he thinks i'm stalking him, but I'm not honest! I fell in love with them after one listen to bet you look good on the dancefloor... Last Shadow Puppets aren't as immediate but I guess it's a new direction - I've yet to give the whole album a proper listen. Oh, that would be so cool if you guys manage to get 'em. DO believe the hype.

Oh and to clear up any confusion, my 'proper' name is Aysha - Shan ain't exactly a pseudonym, you know how us Asians have two names, that's abbreviated from Shanta.

Do you like The Horrors at all? I've finally gotten over the Mystery Jets obsession. At the mo am listening to the Descendents on recommendation. Am lovin' a bit of the ol' punk rock.

Animation looks great! Although i can't listen to it here at work, i will watch the video again when i am at home :)

I've often wondered how these animations are done. What program do you use to create such animations?

arctics are not all that, scummy man was a good song but the rest are average. in fact i would go so far as to say as the arctics are just another band riding on the wave of the a resurgent brit popo culture which is at best average.

wonderwall is a classic but ryan adam's version of it is much better. oasis's killer tracks are wonderwall, dont look back in anger, champagne supernova and stop crying your heart out.

a great song which i havent heard in a long time is 'your love gets sweeter every day' by finley quaye. great vibes. 'dice' by finley quaye is brill too.

whilst we are also on the subject of the clash, the who and all that, who is a fan of David Bowie?
I love Lets Dance. I bought my cousin a rare vinyl for his 35th bithday which cost me 30 quid but is worth 300 now. its he vinyl that was used to air it first in the world from radio 1.
also heroes and under pressure from david bowie, not forgetting, the best of the lot Ground Control To Major Tom, in fact the whole space oddity EP is just on another level completely
I also have a rare vinyl for Pop by U2 which was the one of only 10 copies in the world with exclusive extras.

I completely disagree, the arctics, if anything filled the void post-Libertines (another high in the indie world) though admittedly you get bands watered down, riding on the coat tails syndrome (see the Fratellis, the View et al). The monkeys' first alb in my eyes (and many others) is most def a brilliant debut album. ...look good on dancefloor is a stroke of genius, talking of strokes, anyone like The Strokes?

Live Forever and Half the World Away another couple of greats from Oasis I think.

My neighbours (who are to blame for a Nirvana phase, and yes, I hold Kurt Cobain to be an all-time great 'n' all) got me into a bit of Ziggy Stardust. Wow, cool stuff about the vinyls! I have dibs on my dad's Indian and Bengali vinyl collection, some great original covers. Unfortunately I only have albums on CDs. there's summat special abuot vinyls though.

Anyone like Vampire Weekend? A-Punk and Cape Cod Wassa Wassa are must-listens. Their sound is very quirky, diverse influences show through. They are pretty good live too, saw them at primavera, though they do lack charisma and stage presence in between songs, crap at on stage banter.

i thought Jz's take on the whole thing worked well. and big pimpin'? hell, yeah! a mate of mine had backstage photographer's pass to the whole thing, she caught part of his set and a lotta dancing was involved. lucky cow.

anyone catch any last night? watched a bit, i think the verve's lucky man and bitter sweet symphony were naturally anthemic and probably pretty awesome if one was in attendance.

i think the reading/leeds line up is always better though.
